Interior designers are suggesting the new trends are shifting towards bold colors and migrating away from homes filled with neutral-based colors. Additional trends are leaning towards textured fabrics, natural stone, nature-inspired elements, and an increased desire for handcrafted elements. This whole trend is focused around creating home spaces that reflect personal and unique touches meaningful to those in the household. These focuses instill feelings of peace and serenity within a home, with less noise and more emphasis on craftsmanship, plus it promotes individualized style. 

Pantone Announces 2026 Color 

The 2026 Pantone color of the year is Cloud Dancer—a soft, lofty, and serene shade of white that symbolizes calm, quiet reflection, and a fresh start in a noisy world. Pantone chose white to reflect a global need for peace and a return to intentional simplicity, acting as a blank canvas for new ideas and connections. Pantone is recognized as a global barometer in color forecasting. 

With the emphasis on making home spaces more personalized, the range of bold colors and natural elements opens the door for home interiors to reflect their occupants in fresh, inviting ways—moving away from stark minimalism. 

Leading designers from Martha Stewart, Vogue, HGTV, and Sherwin Williams are suggesting we may see bold color palettes—such as rich browns and versatile jewel tones—inspire home painting projects. Pairing these warm tones with Cloud Dancer could be a winning combination. The millennials gray palettes are being replaced with warmer tones that are less cold and more reflective of the homeowner’s personality.

More Interior Shifts   

With the intention towards simplicity in wall artwork, homes will move beyond gallery walls to unique art. This could include pottery, woodcraft, and pieces with a lot of texture. For those who thrive in creating art this strong trend towards personalization allows an increased opportunity to use their home to tell a story.  

The desire to amp up the warmth and nostalgia means you’ll see darker wood tones and perhaps even accent pieces using burl. Bronze and aged brass will replace shiny metallic accents. Vintage inspired fabric patterns along with tactile textures such as velvet, brushed wool, slub linen, matte chenille, and rattan will rise in popularity.  

Around the House

The mixing and matching of patterns and textures throughout the house, known in interior design terms as layering, will be the go-to look to achieve balance as well as create restful and serene spaces. Instead of the same wood tone being used on flooring, cabinets, and furniture, the new trend will be less matchy—allowing for a more layered approach to home interior designs. 

In the kitchen and bathrooms, the all-white cabinets and countertops are on the way out, to be replaced with warm colors such as inky blues, deep green, and soft taupe. Designs are all about infusing personality, creating a comfortable feeling, adding texture, and maximizing natural lighting. There is an increased interest in expanding eat-in kitchens and moving away from the traditional formal dining room. 

Lighting fixtures had been statement pieces but these will be smaller and more refined so the scale better matches the room’s proportions, its architecture, and the craftmanship. For windows, the go-to will be simple linen shades or fuller floor-length drapes. Linen allows soft light to shine through but also provides daytime privacy.   

On the rise is peaked interest in defined spaces for a home office, a cozy movie room, or a library/den for adult gatherings and quiet moments. Throughout the house, you’ll notice a comeback in woodwork features such as detailed crown molding, wood paneling, and ceiling treatments.
