My latest segment of The American Dream features fun, fellowship, and community togetherness. We’re off to visit St. Angela Merici Catholic Church in Sienna. This is the setting for the 4th Annual Gumbo Cook Off. Father John Cahoon and Father Joy Thomas explain this cook off offers a fusion of tastes plus raises funds for the youth of the parish and helps with retreats and other youth activities.

The cook off draws people from Sienna and the surrounding area. This is a big deal around the community with the event growing in size each year. From tasting diverse gumbos to children’s activities and loads of fellowship, there is something for everyone at the cook off.

On this episode I’ll introduce you to three-time winner of the People’s Choice Award, Crazy C'Asians, and last year’s Judge’s Choice winner, Ragin' Cajuns. Both share their love and passion for sharing their gumbo!

Everybody does gumbo a little different. This diversity is showcased throughout the event. Fort Bend County has a lot of flavor in its people, its neighborhoods, and in its vocations.
